BYU General Safety Training

BYU General Laboratory Safety Testing

The Biophysics Great Lab is dedicated to helping students make the most of their research opportunities. To help in this process we provide you with a one semester training course in basic biophysic research. During the course you will be introduced to many of the methods and procedures used in the Biophysics Great Lab. If you chose to continue research in the Biophysics Great Lab you will be better prepared to excel.

  • If you have any questions:

You may begin the Safety Training and Testing process as follows:
Safety Training and Testing is the first week of the Training Course, and must be finished before any activities in the lab.

For BYU General Laboratory Safety Test:

If you have added the training course, you should be able to access this test through Blackboard.  You can get access to the test by clicking on Life Sciences and Safety Compliance under My Organizations.  If this is not the case simply email Rebecca at rebecca_scholl@byu.edu. Her instructions are as follows:

  1. View the PowerPoint “College of Life Sciences General Lab Training” located in the Documents section.
    • This PowerPoint covers the government regulations and rules governing the labs in the College as well as information about safety procedures for handling hazardous materials
  2. Complete the “Life Sciences General Lab Training Test” in the Documents section
    • This test is to be a closed book test.  You need to pass the test with at least 85%
  3. Once you have completed the training test with 85% it will release:
“Life Sciences General Lab Training Record” located in the Documents section
    • This document states that you have been advised of the rules and laws and agree to abide by them while in the laboratory.

*Test must be passed with 100% before working in the Biophysics Great Lab.
Tests are open note.

Students/Employees are required to review all safety procedures and materials annually. "The procedures and requirements found in the Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) apply to all individuals who enter, work, or perform activities within a laboratory where chemicals are stored, handled, or used."
BYU, CHP, 5.0 (see http://safety.byu.edu/docs/ChemicalHygienePlan.pdf).
